Portugal Summary

The Algarve which is located in the south of Portugal is the perfect place for investment for both homemakers and holidaymakers. It is most accessible as there are an ever increasing number of airlines that fly direct to Faro airport, both schedule and charter.  This has helped it become one of the most famous tourist destinations in all of Europe and the world. You can enjoy over 320 days of glorious sunshine with temperatures between 13 to 18 degrees in winter and 28 and 35 degrees in the summer.  Traditional towns and villages blend into the coastline alongside their more modern neighbours.  There are over 100 stunning beaches which spread over 150 kms.  Obviously the most beautiful beaches attract more tourists, these are: Dona Ana in the proximity of Lagos, Senhora da Rocha near Armacáo de Pêra, Sáo Rafael at Albufeira and the famed sandy beach of Ilha de Tavira.

The high level of tourism has led to the creation of top entertainment facilities including sophisticated five star hotels, spas also the modern marinas of Vilamoura, Portimao, Lagos and the Vilamioura Casino.  You can also enjoy superb sporting facilities specialising in golf, water sports, sailing and skiing and an excellent nightlife. Some areas are more developed so whether its fun and excitement or relaxation you are looking for the Algarve has something for everybody.

TAVIRA is a historical city of smooth hills and a quiet river. A main focal point of the town is the 'Roman Bridge'. It's a place where the influence of other cultures is apparent in its architecture and the townspeople who live there.

FARO is the capital of the Algarve & has many interesting ruins from the Moorish & Roman period as well as some beautiful 18th Century buildings. Surrounded by fertile fields of trees bearing fruit, olives & the almonds for which the Algarve is famous. Faro is a large town with over 50,000 inhabitants with ample amenities and attractions.

LARGOS is a bustling town full of activity, from the street entertainers and buskers to the array of clubs and bars typical of an Algarve resort.  However, it is also full of history, monuments and architecture.  The rocky headland of Ponta de Piedade is very beautiful and the nearby beaches are amongst the best in the region.  Also the younger visitors can be kept entertained with all the exciting rides in the various water parks and they also have the opportunity to swim with the dolphins at the zoo. Largos is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Algarve.

Golf is a very popular activity and throughout the Algarve & Lagos this is no exception with the Palmares, Boavista & Alta Courses offering a round with views of the ocean & the challenging Penina Championship Course nearby, which often hosts a Portuguese Open tournament.

Investing in property offers a safer alternative than other investments. In Portugal there is a high demand for rentals all year round – in the hotter summer month’s rentals transfer from Golfers to the streams of visiting tourists.  Additionally, the steady climb in property value offer double benefits for investors.  Apartments and town houses are highly rentable, especially if they are well marketed and located within easy reach of the large number of golf courses available.  Portugal was considered the `Best Golf Destination of 2006´ by the Irish Travel Trade News for the second year in a row.  As Portugal is economically stable, should you retain the property for the long term you will be financially rewarded when you go to cash in your investment.
